Whether we participate in sports or recreational
activities for fun, fitness, or as a profession, the importance of
maintaining a well-balanced, well-coordinated, pain-free body is
sought after by those of us wanting to get the most out of our
efforts.
The promise of peak performance has prompted
thousands of athletes at all levels from high school to
professionals to make chiropractic an integral part of their
training regimen. In today's highly competitive athletic
environment, chiropractic care has become a central component for
many in achieving their personal best in life and competition.
The role of chiropractic in the athlete's training regimen is to maximize
the individual's inherent potential, reduce the risk of injuries
and, if injured, decrease recovery time. This is accomplished by
focusing on the spinal structure as it relates to the nervous system
and optimal function. |
|
Chiropractic adjustments help reduce joint
stresses and minimize neurological interference. These corrective
procedures revivify muscular strength, body balance, and
coordination that optimize the athlete's potential to attain peak
performance. |
A group of athletes under chiropractic care
were compared with a control group that received none. Agility,
balance, power, speed reaction, and hand reaction time improved
dramatically.
After six weeks the chiropractic group had an
overall 10.7 percent improvement in athletic ability.
The control group had a 4.5 percent
improvement.
After 12 weeks, the chiropractic group's
improvement was 16.7 percent!
"The [chiropractic] athlete reacts faster, coordinates
better, executes fine movements with improved accuracy and
precision, amounting to an overall better athlete."1 |
Today, many athletes are
discovering the relationship between proper spinal mechanics, alignment
and their own level of achievement. That's why chiropractic has been used
by many champions like Ken Norton, Tim Witherspoon, Ivan Lendl, Evander
Holyfield, John McEnroe, Joe Montana, and Michael Jordan.
